Strava, RideLondon and the #twopointsixchallenge

If you would like to join Wheels for Wellbeing’s ‘Zoom Social Chats’ on Mondays at 11am, please email emma@wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk

The Social Chat last Monday was all about cycling…no surprise there really! Our discussion included where to find maps of cycle routes, whether there are apps to help with fitness, and if it’s possible to track where you ride. We managed to get one of our handcyclist participants set up on Strava, and one of our support workers decided to start looking on the Sustrans website for some maps. Both of them were going to start thinking about training for the Prudential RideLondon 45-mile sportive in August. Unfortunately, the event has now been cancelled  – inevitable, but sad for our participants and support workers who wanted to take part for the first time. It’s also disappointing news for the Wheels for Wellbeing team, as we were going to co-host the Inclusive Cycling Festival Zone again…oh well, hopefully next year everything will be back to ‘normal’!

On a more positive note: there were updates on the 2.6 Challenge, with everyone involved chatting about how they were finding the final few days of cycling, walking and working out. There’s no doubt that we all hope to keep going, even after the challenge has been completed. Our Herne Hill Session Manager (and Zoom Social Chat host) cycled 550 miles in 26 days, and really enjoyed having the time to just go wherever her bikes took her…no commuting, only desk-based work and light mornings certainly helped her manage to cycle all those miles!

Please do join us in next week’s Social Chat if you can, there is no agenda and topics of conversation are decided by attendees!
