Fundraisers of the Quarter

We are grateful to each and every fundraiser who helps keep our wheels turning. Each quarter we celebrate one individual or group’s success in supporting us. This time we hear from Alan Turnbull, who did the Prudential Ride London46 on a bicycle tandem with Nic Fripp, raising £260.

I am a visually impaired person who was given the opportunity of participating in the Prudential RideLondon 46 as part of a tandem pair.  This was my first cycle event, so I did not have a specific time in mind, just the aim to complete the course.

To prepare for the ride, I completed 4 training sessions at the Queen Elizabeth velo park Stratford with my pilot at weekends and worked on cardio fitness throughout the week. I was pleased with our progress but 46 miles still seemed like a long way.

So, I was very happy to complete my first sportive safely. I was also pleased with my time of 3 hours 52 minutes. It was a really enjoyable well organised event and we received lots of encouragement and good wishes from spectators along the way, especially the tandems.

Thank you to my tandem partner pilot, Nick Fripp who I hadn’t even met until the end of June this year. Also, to Abigail Tripp from Wheels for Wellbeing who made it all possible.
Volunteering to fund raise for Wheels for Wellbeing provided me with the opportunity to give something back and a total of £260 has been raised.

Thanks to all who have supported me.
