TfL focus group on cycles as mobility aids

Wheels for Wellbeing has been campaigning tirelessly to gain recognition for cycles as mobility aids. We know this is a key issue for many disabled cyclists.

Our research has shown that 1 in 3 disabled cyclists have been asked to dismount and walk their cycle at some point, even though they were using it as a mobility aid. We think this is discriminatory and discourages many disabled people from taking up cycling, or worse, penalises them for choosing active travel over more sedentary forms of transport.

That is why we are delighted to hear that TfL have announced they will be holding a focus group about using cycles as mobility aids.

If you are a disabled cyclist living in London and would like to take part then please email TfL directly at SMBCycling@tfl.gov.uk. The focus group is due to take place midweek in late January.
